Phew! Darn model.
I never liked mapping and human textures (I'm more of the sculptor sort), but I did it anyway. And now looking at the final result, I'm tempted to say that it was worth it. She's the best model that I've done yet.
Wyrren Jadis, heroine from my novel.
All modeling and textures are mine, except for the paisley fabric. 3ds max and photoshop.

I'm not pretty sure if rendering human skin with default scanline renderer is the best idea. Maybe you could try mental ray to do the job. There's a perfect material type for skin like/organic (or translucent) materials SSS Fast Skin (and others). It would give it more realistic look. Also current skin color doesn't look realistic, though I don't know if she is 100% human, as far as I haven't read your novel .
Also using Hair and fur for hair would be nice, but I understand it is extremely time consuming...
Anyway, I don't know how much reference you've used for modeling, so I won't comment mesh.
I hope I was bit constructive, and it is nice to see some non-Poser or whatever character around
